Ann 8th January 2020

I'd kind of known Sam through mutual friends for a while but got to know him better when he asked me to help organise the 11th European Juggling Convention in Bradford in 1988. 'But I can't juggle' I said, that night in the Bavaria. 'We've got enough jugglers' he said. 'What we need are people who can organise stuff' he said. And the rest is history. I can remember explaining to him about how faxing worked. 'You mean like long distance photocopying?' 'Yes, kind of'. I loved watching him and the other Sarostes - 'It's like watching fish swim!' And then he taught me how to pass clubs: 'Keep practicing and stop swaying about!'.
